Cafe Penguino sits right in the heart of Simon's Town, offering an informal but inviting spot that feels very much part of the local rhythm. This café draws a steady mix of residents and visitors, from people grabbing a quick coffee and pastry to those settling in with a laptop for a couple of hours, even without WiFi, thanks to its welcoming vibe and attentive staff.

The charm here is in its unpretentious character—nothing too fancy—but well-made and honest food with highlights like the egg, cheese, and bacon sandwich, alongside baked treats such as red velvet cake, banana loaf, and the Portuguese-inspired pasteis de nata. Homemade lemonade and comforting coffee options, including lattes and cafe mochas, round out the menu nicely for daytime refreshment.

Locals seem to appreciate the relaxed atmosphere where it’s easy to enjoy a break or a casual bite. The café’s pace is friendly and efficient, which works well whether you’re popping in for a quick snack or lingering a little longer. The space is small but cozy, with a sense of safety and familiarity that encourages people to unpack their laptops and settle in quietly without pressure.

For visitors exploring the area, Cafe Penguino’s location makes it a practical stop either before or after heading to nearby Boulders Beach to see the penguins. Its proximity to local landmarks adds to its appeal; you can soak in some of Cape Town’s coastal charm while enjoying simple, satisfying food and drinks.

Morning or early afternoon tend to be the best times to come through when the café hums quietly with a blend of locals running errands, freelancers working remotely, and tourists looking for a genuine taste of Simon's Town life. In all, this is a spot best appreciated by those who enjoy unhurried moments amid a vibrant but grounded neighborhood scene.

I was desperate for somewhere to work from for 2 hours - I told them I would consume and they happily allowed me to. Laptop friendly but no WiFi - works for me! Quiche was yummy, I inhaled the salted caramel shake because I was so hungry lol small but cute - feels safe to have your laptop out.

Little local place full of character. Friendly and fast service. Good sandwiches. Nothing fancy but good honestly served.

This is a cafe with the local Simon's Town charm. In the heart of the town, it is a bustling hive of activity from the tourists and locals alike. The food is phenominal (especially the baked goods). The views are some of Cape Town's best. It's just a stones throw away from the famous Boulder's Beach, so would make a good stop before or after seeing the penguins. Make this one of your stops if you ever find yourself enjoying a day out in Simon's Town.

Great value for money meals. We had the chicken and beef pies, with a side of lovely chips and salad.

Very interesting place, not a lot of seating space. But the takeaway food is good and staff is friendly.
